Dear Interested Students and Families,
I hope this letter finds you and those you love well. I wanted to take a moment of your time to give you a few updates on the transformative changes going on at Immaculate Conception High School in order to best meet the needs of our students in this ever- changing world, while still providing the traditional Catholic school values many have come to expect from an institution rich with history and legacy. First and foremost, we have made a number of updates to our curriculum, including the expansion of Honors programs into the Social Studies and Religion departments. We’ve added 10 brand new electives, expanded our Music program, and added AP English: Language & Composition. Second, in order to provide our students with the most opportunities and resources we have restructured our school model. In this new model there will be a Head of School to manage and direct the entire school community going forward, while a Principal, Dean of Students & Faculty, and Director of Guidance & Counseling will give direct support to the students and the Faculty, ensuring a high-quality academic experience. Thirdly, our expansive student life offerings include: nine varsity sports, two club level teams with the prospect of becoming varsity teams, a competitive robotics team, and many other Club/Activity options all contributing to the vibrant school community that is at Immaculate. Finally, we are so excited to offer our students the newly furnished Wellness Room. It’s been a rough go the past three years, dealing with all of the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. All the research shows that students have been impacted, especially socially & emotionally. Our Wellness Room will serve as a “safe place” for our students, as well as a classroom for the Seniors who will work one-on-one with the Guidance team on the College Application process.
It is a busy time of year here at Immaculate. Our seniors are working on their college plans for next year and, considering many of them will be accepted to a long list of schools, they have some difficult choices to make in the weeks ahead. They are guided by our hard-working Counseling Team (Mrs. Listo, Mrs. Perl & Mr. Dennis) who will give them every advantage in the highly selective process of college admissions. Our Fall Sports are well underway, with Girls Volleyball, Cheerleading and Football all having successful seasons. The Lady Lions Volleyball Team is 11-2 and has already played in the Essex County Tournament. They will finish their season with State playoff games, led by their Coaches Mr. Nwangwu & Ms. Castanon. The Boys Football team, led by Coach Maurice Lucas, is 5-3 and has also clinched a playoff spot! The Lady Lion Cheerleaders, led by Ms. Castanon, have “cheered” on both Fall Sports teams, and have contributed to their enthusiasm & success. Check out our website or social media for any Sports updates and stop by for a game!
I have been blessed to be a member of the Immaculate Community for nearly three years and I am very excited for the future of the school and for our students. I firmly believe that with the many updates we are making and the changes to the structure of the school, we will continue to meet the needs of our students and the expectations of our families. I would like to personally invite every student reading this letter to spend a day at Immaculate to see what we have to offer and what our small class sizes, vibrant community, and rigorous academic program can do for you. Lion for the Day can be scheduled through Mr. Taylor in the Enrollment Office: [email protected].
Thank you again for your interest in Immaculate and we look forward to our shared future.
Mr. Charles Syby
